I wasn’t tagged but can’t resist putting in my two cents; you’ve all already picked some of my favorites. I would pick:

    1. Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon (definitely a classic)
    2. Simon & Garfunkel – Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme (or perhaps Sounds of Silence)
    3. Joni Mitchell – Blue (good suggestion, DCap)
    4. Rolling Stones – yes, there has to be one on here – Sticky Fingers is great. Also their newer live album “Stripped” is really good (they do Dylan’s Like Rolling Stone, which is great)
    5. The Chieftains – Long Dark Veil (great album, has all kinds of people, including the Stones, doing Irish songs).
    6. Judy Collins – Wildflowers
    7. The Kinks – State of Confusion (I love all their older stuff too but would want it on one big triple disc Greatest Hits album). This was a great “newer” album that in and of itself has a lot of great songs on it.

It’s hard to limit it to seven!

  6. Jim - November 16, 2008

lots of good albums here folks–some have been named already so I will list what I have jammed to over and over again.

    1. In Search of the Lost Chord by the Moody Blues
    2. Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan
    3. Court and Spark by Joni Mitchell
    4. Toward the Within by Dead Can Dance
    5. Tapestry by Carol King
    6. Acadie by Daniel Lanois
    7. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy by Sarah McLachlan.

  16. kreiz - November 22, 2008

Very heartened to see the heavy representation of the Moody Blues- a great and slightly underrated band. Listened to a gob of Blues- thought Justin Heyward was a phenom.
    “Tapestry” was a great work.
Same with “Bridge over Troubled Waters” and “Bookends”
Hard to argue with anything on Carol’s list, especially Sweet Baby James.
Could easily be Beatles/individual albums- White, Revolver, Rubber Soul, Abbey, Sgt. Pepper, All Things Must Pass, Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1st solo album) McCartney (1st solo album).

    A stab:

    Eagles- “Hotel California”
    Neil Young- “Harvest”
    Beatles- “Abbey Road”
    Beatles- “White Album”
    The Who- “Who’s Next”
    Led Zepplin- “Led Zepplin II”
Elton John- “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”

  17. kreiz - November 22, 2008

For what it’s worth, close also rans (not in my top 7 though):
Queen- “A Night at the Opera”
    Snoop Dogg- “Doggystyle”
    Isaac Hayes- “Shaft”
Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water”
Never owned it but can “Thriller” be denied?

  18. linda - November 24, 2008
