On this Date in Beatles History 9-6

On this date in 1933, Harry Epstein and Queenie Hyman were married at Wilson Road Synagogue in Sheffield, England. They were the future parents of Beatles‘ manager, Brian Epstein.

On this date in 1962, “Mersey Beat” magazine published the article “On Safari With Whide Hunter“, written by John Lennon, under the pseudonym Beatcomber.

On this date in 1967, the Beatles began recording the songs, “The Fool On the Hill” and “Blue Jay Way“.

On this date in 1968, Eric Clapton recorded the guitar solo for the Beatles song, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps“.

On this date in 1972, John Lennon and Yoko Ono appeared live with Elephant’s Memory on the annual “Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon”. They performed the songs “Imagine“, “Now Or Never“, and “Give Peace A Chance“.

On this date in 1974, George Harrison held a press conference in London to announce the launching of his own record Dark Horse label.

On this date in 1978, Paul and Linda McCartney hosted the third annual Buddy Holly Week in London. A midnight screening of “The Buddy Holly Story“, starring Gary Busey, was shown at the Odeon Theatre. Keith Moon left before the end of the movie to return to the Mayfair apartment he was sharing with Harry Nilsson. The next morning he was found dead in his bed. Some articles of clothing belonging to Ringo were found in the apartment.

On this date in 1985, the final steps were taken to make Michael Jackson the owner of ATV Music, which includes the bulk of Northern Songs including the ones written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. One of the saddest days in Rock history.

On this date in 1995, Klaus Voorman set up shop at Apple’s Ovington Square offices in London to begin work on the covers for the “Beatles Anthology“.

On this date in 1998, the Sunday Mail published the results of the poll of “The All Time Top 1,000 Albums“. The Beatles held four of the top five positions. Number 1 was “Revolver“, number 2 was “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band“, number 3 was “The Beatles (aka White Album)” and at number 5 was “Abbey Road“. Down at number 20 was “Rubber Soul“.
